2009 Poster Contest

Deadline: January 31, 2010

Committee Members: Peter Busch, Chairman, Bob Reimert, Dallas Millard, Barry Johnson
Sponsored by: American Family Insurance

Fire up the imagination of the children in your community! Talk to your neighborhood schools about conducting a kindergarten-8th grade poster competition for great ideas that will help your department promote Fire Safety.

Participating member departments each hold their own contest, judge those entries from kindergarten through 8th grade and submit the first place winner for each grade level to the WSFA office.

Only one poster per each grade level, from a school or fire department will be accepted. Multiple entries per grade will disqualify all entries even if a school has more than one class of a grade level.

The posters will be displayed and judged by the membership at the WSFA convention in March, 2009. Winners will be selected on the basis of originality and their understanding of fire prevention strategies.

Cash prizes will be awarded in each grade level as follows:
1st prize: $50.00
2nd prize: $25.00
3rd prize: $10.00

Eligibility Requirements:

  1. Grades kindergarten through eighth are eligible.

  2. All entries must be original and drawn free hand. Traced, stenciled or laminated entries will be disqualified or returned.

  3. Posters should be on white poster paper.

  4. Posters must be: 11” x 17” or 12” x 18”.

  5. Paints, crayons and markers acceptable.

  6. No identification of any sort, designating city, fire department etc. will be allowed on the front of the pictures. Those with identification on the front will be disqualified.

  7. Place a typewritten sticker on the back of each poster with the following information:
    Student Name
    Grade level
    Address
    Telephone number
    School Name
    Address
    Telephone number
    Sponsoring Fire Dept. Name
    Address
    Telephone number

  8. Mail entries to:
    WSFA
    P.O. Box 126
    Durand, WI 54736-0126
** Important Note: It is very important that Rule 7 be followed - this will make it much easier to judge and contact the winning students, their schools and fire departments. Without this complete information, a winning poster may not receive proper recognition.
